3.2; Rescue Technician

Purpose
To establish the position description and minimum training requirements for the position of Rescue Technician with the Kitsap County Technical Rescue Team (KCTRT).

Scope and Applicability
This policy is intended to apply to all personnel assigned to the KCTRT.
Position Description
The Rescue Technician is responsible for performing the rescue function of the incident operation. The Rescue Technician reports directly to the Rescue Group Supervisor or other assigned supervisor. The Rescue Technician may provide technical supervision to other KCTRT personnel, non-KCTRT emergency response personnel, or others.

Minimum Requirements

In addition to the minimum member standards listed in 3.1 and prior to being qualified as a Rescue Technician, sponsoring agencies shall ensure the following training requirements are met within 3 years of appointment to the team:

Rope Rescue Technician (Levels 1 & 2), consistent with NFPA 1006 & NFPA 1670

Confined Space Rescue Technician, consistent with NFPA 1006 & 1670

Trench Rescue Technician, consistent with NFPA 1006 & 1670
-
Rescue Systems 1 or equivalent

Rescue Systems 2 or equivalent
-
Completion of the KCTRT Rescue Technician task book
-
Approval of the KCTRT Leadership Team

Suggested Additional Training
​
Rescue Technicians are encouraged to complete the following training:

Vehicle & Machinery Rescue Technician, consistent with NFPA 1006 & 1670

DHS/FEMA National US&R Response System Structural Collapse Specialist

ICS-300: Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents

Incident Safety Officer
